TREATMENT FOR A PLANTAR WART

TREATMENT FOR A PLANTAR WART

Plantar warts are a common foot condition caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). They typically appear as small, rough, raised areas on the soles of the feet and can be quite painful, especially when pressure is applied to them.

Plantar warts are most commonly found in children, adolescents, and people with weakened immune systems. They can be spread through direct contact with the virus, such as walking barefoot on contaminated surfaces or sharing towels or shoes with someone who has a plantar wart.

While plantar warts are generally harmless and can go away on their own, they can be stubborn and difficult to treat. Here are some tips on how to manage plantar warts:

  1. Keep your feet clean and dry. This will help prevent the virus from spreading and make it harder for the wart to thrive.

  2. Wear shoes or sandals in public areas, such as locker rooms, showers, and pools. This will reduce your risk of coming into contact with the virus.

  3. Avoid picking at or scratching the wart. This can cause the virus to spread and make the wart more painful.

  4. Use of over-the-counter wart treatments like salicylic acid and topical patches have a low success rate and sometimes do more damage than good.

  5. Your best chance at eradicating the wart(s) is to see a Podiatrist.  Remedies can include a topical antiviral prescription, Cryotherapy, Microwave therapy, Dry Needling or Surgical removal the wart.

  6. Keep in mind that even after the wart is removed, it may still take some time for the skin to fully heal and the wart to disappear completely.

In summary, plantar warts are a common foot condition caused by the human papillomavirus. While they can be stubborn and difficult to treat, there are several steps you can take to manage and remove them. If you are unsure how to proceed or the wart does not respond to treatment, be sure to consult with a Podiatrist.
