Dr. Tony Avakian began his pursuit in becoming a Podiatrist during his academia at California State University, Chico.
As a college athlete and personal fitness trainer, Dr. Avakian developed an interest in preventative therapy and orthopedic medicine. During his sophomore year in college, he developed chronic heel pain, a syndrome known as "Plantar Fasciitis." After seeing various doctors for this condition and getting little relief, he decided to see a Podiatrist. Within a few days his foot pain was virtually eliminated and he was able to function at the level of activity to which he was accustomed. Realizing that your feet are the cornerstone to leading an active and productive lifestyle, he decided to pursue a profession in Podiatry.
After obtaining his Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry, Dr. Avakian was then accepted to The California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco, CA. Here he received his doctoral training as a Foot & Ankle Specialist, earning his Degree in Podiatric Medicine. During his education, Dr. Avakian worked at one of the top Diabetic Wound Care facilities in the nation known as Hu Hu Kam Memorial Hospital in AZ, an NIH research hospital focusing on treatment of Type I and Type II Diabetes. After gradutating, Dr. Avakian was accepted to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. This high profile program in conjunction with Cornell Medical University, was not only the highest paid Podiatric Residency in the country, but one of the most academic institutions in the nation.
After completion of his training at WHMC, Dr. Avakian continued his surgical training at Midway Hospital and Cedars-Sanai Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA. He has also been involved in "The Baja Project for Crippled Children," a non-profit organiziation in Mexico, focusing on treatment for under privledged children with rare food disorders. Working with the top foot & ankle surgeons in the world, he treated and observed childdren-who were given no chance to walk-miraculously take their first steps toward leading normal, productive lives.
Dr. Tony Avakian is now in private practice, dedicated to providing his patients with the finest and most advanced care available in podiatric medicine. He is also involved with many Health Fairs and local community organiziations. He currently resides and practices in Valencia, CA.
